September 12, 2012 - NOTICE of Runway 1/19 Full Closure!!

September 12, 2012 - NOTICE of Runway 1/19 FULL Closure for Contract 2 Construction Start:

The next contract to reconstruct Runway 1/19 will begin tomorrow morning at 5:30 am requiring the full closure of the Runway 1/19.

Due to funding limitations, the entire Runway 1/19 Reconstruction has been broken into multiple contracts or phases.  We will be completing the first critical phase of the reconstruction in the next few weeks.  The next contract (Contract 2) will begin with the removal of the existing pavement on the center portion of the runway (south of the Contract 1 portion just wrapping up this weekend).  The FULL length of Runway 7/25 will be available throughout the Contract 2 project this fall.  The airport was fortunate to receive funding for the next phase of work and therefore, the contractor is continuing south with the reconstruction effort.  Due to the reconstruction work being completed on the center portion of the runway, the remaining length of runway outside the work zone is not long enough to be useable.  Therefore, Runway 1/19 will remain closed during the duration of the work this fall.  The next Contract is scheduled to be completed by late November 2012.

August 31, 2012 - Concrete Paving Completed on Intersection!

August 31, 2012 - Concrete Paving Completed on the Runway 1/19 and 7/25 Intersection:

The contractor reached a major project milestone today!  Concrete paving on the critical Runway 1/19 and 7/25 Intersection was completed today.  The contractor will transition to Bituminous Shoulder and Runway transition paving next week.  Sawing and sealing of joints and shoulder grading operations will also continue next week.

Finishing up the last mainline concrete paving lane

Completed Concrete Intersection Paving looking Northwest

The original project sequence of construction planned for daily closures of the Runway intersection to complete the joint sawing and sealing.  In order to minimize daily disruption to air traffic with daily closures and increase safety, we have elected to extend the intersection closure phase by one week.  This will permit the uninterrupted work on completing these necessary work items with a full closure.  We are tentatively scheduled to transition back to the full Runway 7/25 length on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 pm to Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 4:00 pm.  During this time Runway 7/25 will be closed to all traffic.  Please check back to this web site for updates as they become available.
